The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer
It wasn’t quite what I had expected. I picked this up from BOTM. I thought it was a mystery. It wasn’t.
Lucy is a young woman abandoned by her parents and unloved by the men she chooses unwisely. She wants to adopt an orphan named Christopher, but can’t because she has no money. His parents died of a drug overdose. He’s a student at the school Lucy aides in.
A book author she loves decides to have a contest to win an unpublished edition of his new book and some money. Lucy and three other fans are invited to Clock Island to participate in said game. They have all been to Clock Island before, Lucy when she was 13, she’s now 26. She meets up again with Jack the author and Hugo the illustrator. Hugo was living on Clock Island when she visited the 1st time. Like I said, she was 13, he was 21. Now they’re 26 and 34 respectively. This part I think is rather creepy. They have feelings for each other, weird.
Anyway, things work out in the end, remember it’s always the journey to get there that counts!
